I am truly saddened to share the news that my father, Robert Goldberger , passed yesterday. He died after a short illness and after 86 years of a pretty great life. He died at home surrounded by family. He was a gifted and respected surgeon, whose skills touched and often saved countless lives. He was married to and leaves behind my Mom, who he loved and cherished for more than 61 years. From my Dad I got so many things: my love of Aspen and skiing; my understandin ... g of the value of education; my very strong sense of right and wrong and my all too often very short fuse. He tried so hard to instill in me the importance of family and of looking after loved ones. He remained, until the very end, most concerned that we take care of Mom, not for a second concerned for himself. Dad was rarely ill, a cold or flu and a bout with Valley Fever are all I can recall. His remarkably good health and very active and engaged life had me convinced he would be with us forever. I simply couldn't conceive of him leaving, but sadly he did. He made it clear to me that he didn't believe in an afterlife, in his inimitable way telling me that he felt that "when you're dead, you're dead". While I tend to agree, I truly hope that I'm wrong (though I'm not quite ready to test this theory). I hope that he's found his parents, siblings, friends (and importantly his dogs) who passed before him and that they give him the comfort and welcome he deserves. I also, however, believe that he's not really gone, He will live deeply and forever in the hearts and minds of his family and countless friends. I will miss him and never forget the unwavering love and support he gave me, no matter how significant a pain-in-the ass I could be. Please keep my Dad and my Mom in your thoughts. Finally, to my close friends who knew him best: He loved you all. extra sized items with sleeves to wear for the wedding
