A very gifted and creative friend of mine, who has not known success as measured by our society, took the personality test based on the Five Factor Model, and became extremely depressed, with a feeling of hopelessness of ever achieving certain life goals. I don't know how to talk to him about this. I don't think much of any psychometrics, but he seems to be buying into the mainstream approach to personality disorders, a term I cannot resign myself to accepting.
I see my fri ... end as having overcome incredible hurdles in his life, when there was little hope that he could accomplish much at all. He has 3 grown and high-functioning children from a failed marriage, and he is in a successful intimate relationship going on for several years now, but he is telling me that he ranks too high in "neuroticism" to ever overcome certain other hurdles. His experiences with therapy all failed, due, in my opinion, to the lack of skill on the part of the psychiatrists with whom he consulted. They attacked him with interpretations, and blamed him for his anger. prom dresses for big bust
